Volunteering and Outreach Overview

Part of YSA Melbourne’s core mission is to promote science to the youth of Australia. To do this, we rely on volunteers who give their time to change the perspectives and lives of those around them. It’s not all hard work though, through their involvement with YSA, volunteers get access to behind the scenes tours of science research facilities such as the Australian Synchrotron and The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, just to name a few, as well as the opportunity to rub shoulders with professors, teachers, and distinguished scientists, researchers and engineers. You also get to have an amazing time getting to know and spend time with YSA's community and friendly members.

All volunteers receive comprehensive training so that they are equipped with all of the knowledge required to be effective science communicators. Volunteers learn how be positive science mentors for students, run YSA science outreach activities, and work in a team environment. These skill-sets are widely transferrable and are invaluable to students and young professionals looking to develop themselves.
